=================================================== PRIMERGY - HOW TO INSTALL GAM SOFTWARE Installation of GAM on PRIMERGY Servers with MS Windows NT 4.0 installed =================================================== The Global Array Manager (GAM) from MYLEX is a client/server RAID management software to manage Mylex RAID Controllers and administer (configure, monitor and manage) the RAID Controllers via network. GAM consists of 3 parts (GAM server, GAM client, GAM driver). The installation is described in this readme file. In case you purchased a new PRIMERGY server you will also find a ServerStart CD-ROM in the package. We recommend to install the Mylex GAM software via ServerStart. If you have neither a current ServerStart CD-ROM nor diskettes for installation please download the necessary software from: http://www.fsc-pc.de/support In that case please skip the steps related to the ServerStart CD. Installation GAM Server / GAM Driver ======================================== The GAM server will be installed to all PRIMERGY systems on which you want to administer the RAID systems. The GAM driver is installed automatically. - Please check first which RAID-Controller (DAC 960PD/PG/PJ/PRL, DAC1164P) is in your system. - Ensure to have a running Windows NT 4.0 on this PRIMERGY server. - Insert the ServerStart CD-ROM (and follow any installation instructions). - The ServerStart application starts automatically. - Find "Mylex GAM SW" in the "Application" menu. - When selecting the entry mentioned above you will get a list in the right frame. - Select "Install GAM Server ..." - take care of the type of your RAID-Controller (PD / PG ...). - Follow the installation instructions. - ServerStart will customize GAM's configuration file accordingly. If you install Mylex GAM NOT via ServerStart, the following steps are necessary : - Reply with 'Yes' if you are asked whether you want to edit GAM's configuration file. - Edit the file C:\\system32\gamserv\gamscm.cnf as follows: * Remove character "#" from the following lines: 1) gamevlog.exe -f C:\winnt\sys... 2) @gamsetsz.exe -f C:\winnt\sys... 3) gamevent.exe -k 119 -s 7 -p 158 -h gamcli... * Replace in line 3) "gamclient1" by the IP-address of your GAM client system. * If there are more than one monitoring systems replace "gamclient2" and "gamclient3" by the corresponding IP-addresses. * Remove all characters in line 3) after the last valid IP-address. * If there are PRIMERGY extension units (e.g. PRIMERGY S40DF/702SF/702SX/...) please remove the character "#" in line: 4) @gamconfg.exe -c 5 -t 32 -T ... * Save and close the GAM configuration file. - DO NOT REBOOT now ! - Copy the current version of the file 'MYLEXDRV.SIZ' from the ServerStart CD-ROM to the GAM directory (overwrite existing file): * Source: :\Tools\GENERAL\DOSTools\EZAssist\Mylexdrv.siz * Destination: C:\\system32\gamserv\ - Start the NT Registry editor "regedt32". - Remove in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/SNMP/Parameters/ExtensionAgents" the entry containing the word "Mylex". - Close "regedt32" and restart the system. Installation of GAM Client ============================ Install GAM-Client on your management station (that system where you want to monitor the RAID systems). The GAM-Client can also be installed on any monitored server to administer the local RAID system. Please note to enter the IP-address of the server (as monitoring system) to the GAM's configuration file "gamscm.cnf" (see Installation of GAM server). - Insert the ServerStart CD-ROM (and follow the installation instructions). - The ServerStart application starts automatically. - Find "Mylex GAM SW" in the "Application" menu. - Select "Install GAM Client" in the right frame. - Follow the installation instructions. The GAM-Software installation is complete now. For the administration of the RAID system create an user "gamroot" in the NT-domain (or on the monitored server). This is necessary as authentification to work with GAM client. Note: it is NOT enough to authenticate as Administrator - in that case you only have restricted rights. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Date: August 2000
